Hardware cost scales with horsepower and build material more than with brand. Thermoplastic housings are generally cheaper than cast iron but dissipate motor heat less effectively during long or frequent cycles — a durability trade-off, not just a price one. Installation labour: existing pit vs. no pit at all
This is the single biggest swing in the total. A straight swap into an existing basin, with the discharge line and outlet already in place, is a short job: disconnect the union, lift the old pump out, set the new one in, reconnect, test. A first-time installation with no existing pit is a different scope entirely — it means cutting a basin into the slab, tying into or adding drain tile around the footing, running a new discharge line to a legal exit point, and very often adding a dedicated electrical circuit with GFCI protection. A quote that bundles everything into one number makes it impossible to tell whether you're paying for a straight swap or a first-time install with hidden excavation costs.
